Below you’ll find a non-exhaustive list of the Albigensian restaurants we’ve all tried out, my favourites and the strengths of these establishments, all of which serve fresh produce!
- Amapola Kitchen : 100 rue Porta, 81000 Albi – 05 63 77 63 04 – my favorite !! Small dishes to share … or not, depending on your mood. Original, inventive cuisine with excellent produce and flavour combinations that you’ll only find here. A real trip on the plate! Maeva, the chef of this pocket restaurant (max 15 covers), will show you the origins of the products used and take you by the hand to help you discover new horizons. Experience guaranteed!
- L’Epicurien : 42 Place Jean Jaurès, 81000 Albi – 05 63 53 10 70 – The furthest from the house, but the Swedish chef’s cuisine is well worth it. In the kitchen, he revisits the classics with unquestionable mastery, resulting in pretty dishes that are in tune with the times, tasty, hearty and well put together. There’s also a judicious wine list and an excellent dining room team that’s as professional as it is friendly.
- Bruit en cuisine : 22 Rue de la Souque, 81000 Albi – 05 63 36 70 31 – Superb terrace in summer, with breathtaking views of Sainte-Cécile cathedral and the episcopal city. Monday to Friday menu at €15 (2 courses) or €19 (3 courses). Evening à la carte. Everything is homemade; choice of artisanal pizzas – an idea for young and old alike.
- L’Alchimy : 12 Place du Palais, 81000 Albi – 05 63 76 18 18 – More expensive. Chic and good-quality brasserie. We go there for the “baroque” decor and for brasserie dishes brought up to date. Weekday lunchtime menu at €20, evening menus between €29 and €39. Large terrace, ideal for evenings, but be careful at lunchtime if it’s very hot!
- La Table du sommelier : 20 Rue Porta, 81000 Albi – 05 63 46 20 10 – the closest, 4 min walk from the guesthouse. 1 Michelin Bib Gourmand; classic but well-crafted cuisine; €18 lunch menu and €28 to €75 evening menu.
- Cascabar : 29 Rue Saint-Julien, 81000 Albi – 05 63 54 03 52 – Good quality/price ratio. Terrace in the pedestrian street. Menu €19/22 lunchtime and €28 and €32 evening. Lovely decor!
- Le Clos Sainte-Cécile: a shady terrace that’s great in summer! Classic cooking with no surprises.
- Le 14.80: A wide choice of good beers and a terrace in the shadow of the cathedral! One menu at lunchtime, a selection of tapas in the evening. Standard cuisine but very good value for money and a relaxed atmosphere.
For Lunch and/or a snack:
- Epicerie Fauvette : 7 Rue Saint-Julien, 81000 Albi – 05 67 87 87 36. Tuesday to Saturday until 7pm
- Le Hibou : 21 Rue Saint-Julien, 81000 Albi – 05 63 76 38 99 – open for lunch every day except Wednesday. Tiny; very good value for money.
- Sérès : 36 Rue de l’Hôtel de ville, Albi – 09 81 99 68 59 – open from 10h to 18h from Tuesday to Saturday. Claire’s homemade sweet and savoury dishes are a real treat at any time of day! Here’s a chance for you to discover new combinations of flavours for your palate, and to enjoy delicious, plant-based dishes.
